Ignatian Prayer Apps

by Lucy DePalma on April 3rd, 2023 in Prayer, Saint Ignatius, Spirituality, Wellbeing | 0 Comments

There are many Prayer Apps available but if you are looking for prayers in an Ignatian tradition you might want to try these.

The app is based on Mark Thibodeaux, SJ’s best-selling book, Reimagining the Ignatian Examen, which offers flexible and adaptable versions of the Examen.
Daily meditation sessions use a mix of music, scripture and short reflective questions. They are between 10 and 13 minutes long, allowing for a quick, but focussed time of prayer.
You are invited you to make a 'Sacred Space' in your day, praying here and now, as you visit our website, with the help of scripture chosen every day and on-screen guidance.

Holy Week 2022

by Lucy DePalma on April 7th, 2022 | 0 Comments

As Holy week approaches the church prepares for the Passion of Christ with Palm Sunday. The stations of the cross are a focus of Holy Week with all churches doing the Via Crucis in Holy Week. Here at at Saint Ignatius students and staff can experience the stations of the cross in a variety of ways. In the Library we have created a display incorporating the Passion of Christ into the Stations of the Cross. We have also with e the generous permission of Miriam Rose Ungunmerr Baumann digitially recreated The Australian Stations of the Cross which feature her paintings of the Stations of the Cross that hang in the church in Daly River.

Here is the link to the Holy Week Libguide that also contains other resources for Holy Week.

New Genres added to Fiction Collection

by Lucy DePalma on February 16th, 2022 in English, Reading | 0 Comments

We have been doing some rearranging in the fiction collection over the last year. We have tried to put as many genre stickers as appropriate on out books and we have moved many Senior Fiction books into the Middle Fiction. Later this year we will rebrand the Middle Fiction to just Fiction. The Senior Fiction then becomes much smaller ant tighter really aimed to challenge and engage our senior students. In moving books to Middle Fiction, we noticed there was a need to create new genres to accommodate those books that were still a good and complex read but not quite Senior Fiction. The two new genres are:

Realistic Fiction novels often focus on the growth of a protagonist from youth to adulthood. They are sometimes   set in the past or have adults looking back into their past. This is a genre that fits multiple issues around identity such as racism, gender migration and adolescence.

Multi-layered novels have blend themes from two or more different genre. They usually have an overarching main plot, using multiple character arcs and multiple perspectives.

Origins of Halloween

by Lucy DePalma on October 15th, 2021 in History | 0 Comments

Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31, and Halloween 2021 will occur on Sunday, October 31. The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints. Soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats......
